Coordinate Rotation (G68)

Applies rotational transformation to the coordinate system.

Definition

Applies rotational transformation to the coordinate system. Rotation is useful when part orientation changes but the machining strategy stays the same.

Formula / Rule

  • G68 rotates the active coordinate system around the programmed center by the specified angle.
  • Always pair it with the controller cancel or reset command before leaving the rotated section.

Typical Range

  • Use it for tombstones, angled fixtures, or repeated faces that share one program pattern.

Shop-floor Scenarios

  • Apply it when the fixture angle is known and the same feature repeats on another face.
  • Cancel rotation before probing, manual recovery, or handing the job to another operator.

Common Errors / Troubleshooting

  • If coordinates look mirrored or shifted, confirm rotation center, sign, and active plane.
  • If downstream moves stay rotated, verify that the cancel block executed before restart.
